From Peter Baldwin, Senior Occupational Hygienist, HSE, current
Chair of WHWB UK
"WHWB-UK is a group of health and
safety professionals to address occupational health issues around
the world and is part of the wider WHWB organisation. Most of
the world's workers do not have access to occupational health
expertise. They lack the resources, knowledge and technology to
identify and control workplace exposure to disease-causing
hazardous substances.
According to the World Health
Organization, almost 2/3 of the world's 3 billion workers are
employed in unhealthy and unsafe working conditions. The
International Labour Organization, the United Nations tripartite
agency responsible for drawing up and overseeing international
labour standards, reports nearly 2 million deaths each year from
occupational disease
WHWB UK aims to provide develop
workers both technically and through support to help them to
improve health conditions in their workplaces in developing
countries to integrate occupational health into their operations
around the globe. WHWB has developed projects to reduce ill health
including a silica learning tool, and mentoring.
We welcome your interest in WHWB-UK
and hope that you support us to improve occupational health
throughout the world."
