People working in the cleaning sector are at risk of the skin disease dermatitis usually affecting the hands, arms, and in more severe cases across the face and other parts of the body. Extended immersion of the skin in water is recognised as a major risk factor for dermatitis in cleaning work but other ingredients in cleaning products (e.g., chemicals and biological agents such as enzymes) may also cause symptoms ranging from mild irritation to severe dermatitis.
